08 METROPOLITAN URBAN MASTERPLAN OF BARCELONA
URBAN PLANNING
The Metropolitan Urban Development Plan (PDU) establishes the regulatory framework and guidelines for metropolitan urban planning for the year 2050 with the aim of enhancing the natural values of the metropolitan territory, improving our cities, and promoting active and sustainable mobility.
The PDU's metropolitan urban planning faces three main challenges: sustainable mobility, ecological transition, and improving livability and competitiveness. To tackle these, it proposes six basic action axes: sustainable mobility, ecological transition, improving livability, enhancing competitiveness, ensuring access to housing and green spaces, and enhancing the quality of public spaces.
